In August, Corey and I moved down to Las Vegas for his job! When I got down here I immediately started looking for a job, and man what a process it was. I was scouring Craigslist, Monster, and pretty much every other job site known to man. I heard back from a few places, but nothing really excited me. At the beginning of September I got an email back from a company called Webgistix, and they wanted to interview me. I went in for an interview. I met the staff, showed off my portfolio, and it ended up being a very successful interview. At the end, they told me they were looking to hire a social media/design intern for 5-10 hours a week.
I left the interview feeling a little discouraged because I knew I wanted to find a full-time job. The company reached out to me again, and told me they were very impressed with my first interview and that they would like to have me in again. In this interview I told them I was looking to be hired full-time, or at least 20-25 hrs a week. I met with the HR representative and that interview went really well too. A week went by and I got another call from the company, asking if I would come interview with the CMO. I met with them again, and again it was a very successful interview. They told me I would hear from them by Monday or Tuesday of the next week. At this point my heart was really set on getting this job! Monday came and nothing. Tuesday, nothing. Wednesday, nothing! So finally I called a few people. After a whole week of waiting I was extended an offer to work for Webgistix full-time as their marketing specialist with an emphasis in social media, graphic design, photography, and videography. They told me it had taken them so long because they had to essentially create a whole new position for me and find a budget to pay me on salary. What a great feeling it was to hear that! #biggirlstatus #firstbiggirljob
{Quick insert: Webgistix, was acquired by Rakuten about a year ago and so we are currently in a transition from Webgistix to Rakuten Super Logistics. Our company specializes in fulfillment, warehousing, and software for online retailers. So if an online retailers is looking at growing and expanding, they outsource their shipping and fulfillment to us and we manage all of the picking, packing and shipping to the end customer.}
Since being hired mid-September I have been so busy. I've been managing all of the social media channels, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and Google+. I've done 2 different photo/video shoots in our Las Vegas Fulfillment center. I used one of those photos, and designed a jumbo-sized postcard that we sent to 600+ potential clients. I've designed infographics, flipbooks, whitepapers, slide-decks, postcards, and promotional material. I'm also in the process of giving our current website a "make-over". So, like I said BUSY BUSY!
At the beginning of October, I was able to photograph a fashion-show ish event for my boss, I absolutely loved it! You can see some of those photos here: A few weeks ago I went on my first business trip to California, we visited our sister company, Rakuten Shopping. The very first day, I brainstormed up a campaign called "Thank Goodness I'm Not Shipping Friday." I pitched it to my manager and then to the Exec team and they all loved the idea. The campaign is to essentially show off what all of our clients can do instead of shipping. Enjoy all of my work samples, i've had such a blast working on all of these projects and i'm excited to show them off!
